A student scored the following marks in 11 questions of a question paper :
7, 3, 4, 1, 5, 8, 2, 2, 5, 7, 6.
Find the median marks.
Solution:
Marks scored in 11 questions of a question paper by the student are:
7, 3, 4, 1, 5, 8, 2, 2, 5, 7, 6
Arranging it in descending order, we have
1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 7, 7, 8
Here, n = 11 which is odd
∴ Median = (n + 1)/2th term
= (11 + 1)/2 = 12/2 = 6th term i.e 5
Therefore, the median mark is 5.
